Dr. Wasserman in a child and adolescent psychiatrist with many years of experience in this community. He grew up in New York City, graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering Physics, and did his medical training at the University of Chicago. After his residency in psychiatry at Stanford, he spent 20 years as the director of a locked psychiatric ward for children and adolescents in San Jose. Dr. Wasserman is a member of the Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a Clinical Emeritus Professor in the Stanford Child Psychiatry program where he still teaches. He enjoys talking with children and youths. In his view, the challenge of the work is to integrate the biology and pharmacology with the psychological and social elements of growing up. He works actively with parents as part of the process. At various times, therapy, medication and family support can be all important parts of the treatment process.
