One of our core values is to serve the WHOLE CHILD. This has meant being a different kind of preschool: intentionally teaching character-building and empathy, having an LCSW and an OT on staff, being dedicated to early intervention, working with children with differences, and assisting families. We have integrated many emotional wellness concepts into the daily working of our program.
SUPPORT – It Makes Us Different
What makes Mandala unique is the support we offer to both parent and child. We take very seriously our commitment to give all children the opportunity to be successful. Our program has many extras that help children to learn and interact confidently. Additionally, we offer multiple resources to help parents with the challenging task of parenting.
WE ARE THE FIRST EYES – Early Assessment and Identification of Learning Challenges. We have been educating young children for many years. Our highly qualified staff has an expertise in celebrating children’s differences and identifying early developmental challenges that may be getting in the way of a child’s learning or social interaction. We are often the first to observe a child among many peers of the same age group in a larger social setting.
We have a team to support a child and assist parents: the teachers, our social worker, and our occupational therapist. Current research shows the critical importance of the first five years in laying down the framework of the brain. Early intervention is vital. If we notice that a child is having a particular difficulty, the teachers will share their concerns with parents. While we understand that it might be difficult to hear that a child is struggling, we want all children to thrive at our school. We will help a child get what he or she needs on-site at Mandala first. We may also recommend further outside assessment. If we are not able to utilize our own resources, or if our program is not the best fit, we will help families connect to resources that will offer them what is needed for their child.
At Mandala, we work as a collaborative team in the classroom (teachers, social worker, and occupational therapist) to help all children be successful. Parents are part of our team, too. We take seriously our commitment to work in partnership.
Part of our mission is supporting families. Parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world. It is also one of the most challenging. Our Family Services Program helps parents by offering on-site consultation and assistance. We help parents better understand their children so that they can give their children what they really need. We help parents learn effective parenting skills and coping strategies. We offer parents resources, particularly for children who need enrichment in a particular area or have developmental delays. Parents feel less isolated and alone at Mandala because we work in partnership to nurture and educate their “whole” child.
