First Hand is dedicated to impacting the health of children, their families and communities through reactive and preventative initiatives. To fulfill that mission, we provide funding for individual children with health-related needs when insurance and other financial resources have been exhausted. We also create and support programs that identify issues before they become critical and that empower people to take charge of their health.
Thanks to our supporters, First Hand has been able to impact more than 200,000 lives around the world since 1995.
Funding for health needs - Case Grants
It is all too often that a child goes without medical care. Whether parents lose their jobs, cannot afford health insurance, or have no means to pay for needs not covered by insurance, children fall through the gaps of health care systems every day.
First Hand bridges those gaps by providing funding—both domestically and globally—for individual children with health needs when insurance and other financial resources have been exhausted.
This funding includes:
Clinical necessities (such as medication, therapy or surgery)
Medical equipment (such as hearing aids, wheelchairs or portable oxygen systems)
Travel expenses related to a child’s care (such as airfare or lodging)
Vehicle modifications (such as lifts, ramps or transfer boards)
Healthy living education
Bags of personal items
Medical mission trips
Disaster relief efforts
