As part of its commitment to provide meaningful experiences to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, El Camino YMCA is proud to offer Dance for All - an exercise class that helps youth and young adults with special needs to stay active, healthy and socially connected. The weekly class offers a safe and accepting environment where differences are accepted without judgment and special need participants can exercise side-by-side with their family members and other Y members. Attendees participate in a series of dances, choreographed to popular music enjoyed by youth, as well as Pilates-based exercise that exposes them to moves they would find in a number of other Y classes.
Dance for All was started in 2015 by Teresa Maldonado Marchok and Mercy Forde, two Y members who have children with special needs and were concerned about the lack of opportunities for children with special needs to participate in physical activity. The duo also serve as the class instructors, leading participants in targeted movements and helping engage even the most reluctant of youth.
Free (You do not have to be a YMCA member to participate)
